Around 8:30 Thursday night, deputies responded to a report that a vehicle – the subject of the hit-and-run, was at Casey’s on East DeYoung Street in Marion.

Responding deputies conducted surveillance of the vehicle, and after the occupants returned to the vehicle, they conducted a traffic stop after it departed the convenience store.

The vehicle was impounded and investigators conducted interviews.

While investigators previously had the license plate information, knew the registered address, and who the registered owner was, they learned during the course of the investigation that the owner was traveling outside of the country and was not involved.

Given the unknown location of the vehicle and suspects/witnesses, a request for public assistance was made.

Sheriff Jeff Diederich says without your help, valuable evidence could have been lost or destroyed.

The sheriff says further information will be released as it becomes available.

Deputies responded to the accident just after 5 a.m. Wednesday and found that a 44-year-old man operating an electric scooter was struck by a passing vehicle. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a regional trauma center where he was listed in critical condition.

Anyone with information should contact the sheriff’s office at 618-997-6541 or “Submit A Tip” on the Williamson County Sheriff’s app.
