CARBONDALE – There will be a farewell gathering for the 101 year old Carbondale Community High School Saturday at 6 p.m. CCHS alumni, teachers, and the community are invited.
The building, located at 250 N. Springer St., is set to be torn down soon.
Gates open at 5 p.m. near The Wall on High Street, and speakers will start at 6 p.m. There will be no access to the building’s interior, but visitors are welcome to tour the grounds outside and take photos.
Special guests include Murphysboro Mayor Will Stephens, who graduated from CCHS in 1999, and Carbondale Mayor Carolin Harvey.
Parking will be available on High Street and in the former student parking lot, entering from 207 N. Oakland Ave. The gate to access the main building will be near “the wall” on High Street.
Donations to the Carbondale Community High School Education Foundation are encouraged. The Foundation is organized for charitable, scientific, and educational purposes, including but not limited to promoting, encouraging and fostering education, developing community and public education programs.
