WEST FRANKFORT – Wanda June (Grant) Donkin, 77, of West Frankfort, Illinois, passed away Monday, April 8, 2024, at Westside Rehabilitation & Care Center at 8:53 a.m.

Wanda was born August 15, 1946, in Marion, IL, to Ivan and Joy (Morgan) Grant.

She was united in marriage to Thomas R. Donkin on May 27, 1967, at Trinity Methodist Church in West Frankfort, IL. They shared over 56 years of marriage.

She was a proud mom and Grams. She is survived by her children: son Matt of West Frankfort, daughter Marcella (Ken) Bono of Cottleville, MO, grandsons Tripp and Seeley Bono, granddaughter Fiona Bono, sister-in-law Oralia Grant of Cashion, AZ, and nephews Wayne (Julie) Grant and family of Cross Plains, TN, Wesley Grant of Salem, OR, and Sean (Jennifer) Donkin and family of Mankato, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Wendell O. Grant, her brother- and sister-in-law Jim and Mary Donkin, her brother- and sister-in-law David Clark and Linda Clark, her niece Alyssa Clark, and her nephews Ryan and Jordan Clark.

Wanda was a 1964 graduate of Marion High School. She earned an Associates of Applied Sciences Degree in Medical Records Technology at John A. Logan College in May of 1994.

During her career, she worked in bookkeeping and payroll positions at several area businesses. She retired in 2012 as an Academic Contract Specialist after 15 years at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church, the Nightingals home extension group, and was a former Girl Scout leader.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort, IL. Burial will be at Tower Heights Cemetery in West Frankfort. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024.
