MARION – Both directions of I-57, between exits 45 and 54 in Williamson County, will be closed, weather permitting, starting Sunday night at 7 so steel erection operations on the new Grassy Road bridge over I-57 can be performed. All lanes are expected to be back open by 7 Monday morning. The northbound on-ramps at Old Illinois 13 and Illinois 13 will remain open.

During the closure a marked detour will be in place to direct northbound and southbound traffic around the work zone between exits 45 and 54. The detour will utilize Illinois 13 and Illinois 148 in both directions.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment. Public transportation and traveling during non-peak hours are recommended if possible.
